In the dispute over basic child security, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner underlined the importance of the wage gap requirement.

“With new social benefits, we now have to make sure that people don’t ask themselves at some point whether it still makes a fair financial difference for them if they go to work or not,” said the FDP leader to the newspapers of the Bayern media group. “The wage gap requirement is highly recognized. Social policy must take this to heart,” emphasized Lindner.

“Even if the word basic child security sounds hearty, the billions of euros for good daycare centers and schools, language support and labor market support for parents may be better invested,” Lindner continued.

In addition, the Greens wanted to pay higher cash benefits to adults with children who, as asylum seekers, still receive social benefits without a secure perspective of residence. “I think that’s wrong in terms of migration policy,” said the FDP leader.

With the basic child security agreed in the coalition agreement, the traffic light coalition wants to get more children out of poverty. From 2025, it is intended to bundle state benefits for families and children. What is disputed, however, is what should be included.

Lindner had repeatedly made it clear that, in his view, basic child security is not primarily about additional billions in expenditure, but about better distribution.

The Minister of Finance assumes that a simplified and automated procedure will mean that two to three billion euros will flow more to families.

“We have a lot of help and services for families that are not used. Improving this is the groundbreaking idea of basic child security,” said the finance minister of the Bayern media group. (dpa)
