Austrian start-up implements innovative standard solution for existing and new buildings

mo energy systems from Lochau (Vorarlberg/Austria) is launching Europe’s first standard system for PV facade modules for existing and new buildings. The company’s innovative “plug-and-play” solution enables simple, safe and quick assembly. The system is suitable for wooden, brick or concrete facades in residential buildings as well as for industrial and office buildings. The founders Alexander Moosbrugger and Manuel Hehle are already planning around 200 systems by 2023 – by 2025 7,000 façade systems are to be implemented.

“Sustainable, modular and complete: With a standardized solution, we are creating the basis for rapid and large-scale photovoltaic expansion on facades,” explains Alexander Moosbrugger, founder and CEO of mo energy systems. The company was founded in 2022 and is now launching Europe’s first standard system for PV facades in existing and new buildings. “Until now, every system was unique, our ‘plug-and-play’ complete solution allows simple, safe and quick assembly, installation and commissioning. With our climate-positive products, we are making a contribution to the energy transition,” adds co-founder Manuel Hehle.

mo energy systems will start installing the first systems in spring, with another 200 to follow in 2023. As early as 2025, the company wants to implement around 7,000 systems throughout the DACH region. For the glass modules and components, Moosbrugger and Hehle rely on quality products from Europe. “A sustainable energy future also means independence, greater security of supply and shorter logistics. The high-quality modules reliably supply solar power for at least 30 years,” emphasizes Moosbrugger.

Thanks to vertical installation on wooden, brick or concrete walls, the PV system ensures maximum energy yield even in the winter months. The scalable system is just as suitable for industrial and office buildings with large facade areas as it is for single-family homes or residential complexes. “The market potential is enormous. According to a potential analysis by the Fraunhofer Institute from 2020, 2,200 square kilometers of existing facades can be used in Germany alone. If we want to achieve the Paris climate goals and shape a climate-neutral society, we have to upgrade as many existing buildings as possible to solar power plants and plan PV facades for new buildings from the outset,” Hehle is convinced.

Customizable standard system
The PV facades are offered in three standard formats. “Our system can be flexibly adapted to different architectural requirements, used as a visual stylistic element and also offers weather protection,” says Moosbrugger. With the innovative product, mo energy systems is aimed at craft businesses, property developers and architectural offices. “We want to establish a broad partner network in the DACH region and are currently looking for interested partner and reference projects – from single-family homes to industrial plants,” reports Hehle.
