As part of their “spring rebellion”, the activists of the environmental protection group “Extinction Rebellion” want to march through Berlin on Saturday with a bicycle demonstration. According to the Berlin Traffic Information Center (VIZ), there are therefore road closures.

The starting point of the demo train is Glienicker Bridge in Potsdam on Saturday morning, from where a parade of bikes wants to set off via the A115 and A100 (AS Seestrasse) to the Bayer Group on Müllerstrasse. From late morning, the autobahn will be closed in both directions between the Zehlendorf interchange via the Funkturm interchange and the Charlottenburg interchange up to the Seestraße exit.

From 1 p.m., the participants in the bicycle parade want to join other demonstrators on Müllerstrasse and move on to Stresemannstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Climate camp in Invalidenpark

“Extinction Rebellion” has been organizing a climate camp in Invalidenpark in Mitte since Wednesday. Several dozen tents and an event stage have been set up in the park. The camp serves as a base for the so-called “spring rebellion” of climate activists, which is scheduled to last until April 17th. In the course of this, rallies are planned, and actions of civil disobedience have also been announced.

On Thursday afternoon, the climate activists hijacked the well-known Berlin Hotel Adlon at the start of the “spring rebellion”. On the balcony of one of the upper floors, they lit smoke candles, unfurled a banner that read “We can’t afford the super rich” and threw down leaflets.

As early as Thursday morning, the group had smeared the buildings of around 25 company headquarters, lobby groups and party headquarters with an oil-like liquid. Among them were the FDP federal office in Berlin-Mitte, the buildings of Bayer, BP, Shell and the headquarters of Coca-Cola in Germany on Stralauer Allee. In connection with the color attacks, the police spoke on Thursday afternoon of 61 arrests so far.
