Multiple vehicle accident leaves two dead and delays on I-95

A multi-vehicle crash killed two people and caused delays on northbound Interstate 95 while closing exit 136 in northern Virginia during Wednesday morning rush hour.

Traffic was stopped about five miles as of 7:20 a.m. beginning north of exit 130 in Fredericksburg. Traffic is being diverted to Route 1 at Exit 136 toward Centerport Parkway, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

“Northbound I-95 drivers in the Fredericksburg area can expect extensive travel delays during morning rush hour due to closures, both on the interstate and on the alternate route, northbound Route 1. VDOT detailed.

Virginia State Police responded to the three-vehicle crash with a tow truck around 4:40 a.m. One person was also injured, according to authorities.

“Unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to have the northbound lanes and 95 closed for quite some time,” said Steve Dresner, traffic reporter for First4.

The southbound lanes remained open and were not affected, according to Dresner.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. No additional information was immediately released.
