Colorado storm threat persists: southern state at highest risk of severe weather

DENVER, Colorado – Following the impact of storms on Independence Day celebrations in several Colorado cities, a second round of severe weather is forecast for much of the state today Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather watch, with the highest risk located in the southern part of the state. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected Wednesday morning. In the afternoon, there will be showers, thunderstorms and there is the possibility of hail.

The risk of severe weather will remain on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Temperatures will remain in the 70s for the next few days, with today being the coolest day of the week, with temperatures in the 60s range.

  • Wednesday: Chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, high near 68. East wind between 8 and 16 mph.
  • Wednesday night: Chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, low around 56.
  • Thursday: Partly sunny, high near 82.
  • Thursday night: probability of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, low around 58.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 85.
  • Friday night: Partly cloudy, low around 59.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.
  • Saturday night: Partly cloudy, low around 61.
  • Sunday: Sunny, high near 86.
