Multiple vehicle accidents cause delays on I-95 in Virginia

A multi-vehicle accident caused significant delays and a seven-mile traffic jam on a busy stretch of Interstate 95 in Stafford, Virginia, heading toward Washington, DC, on Thursday morning.

The delays occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95, with vehicles being struck on VA-610. The collision had moved off the road at 8:30 a.m., but cars were still moving slowly in the left lane.

Further down I-95, a second multi-vehicle collision caused delays near Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge. The accident had been fixed at 8:30 am

Roads Thursday morning were slick from the rain so the Virginia Department of Transportation warned travelers about poor driving conditions.

“Areas of moderate to heavy fog and drizzle remain in Northern Virginia this morning,” @VaDOTNOVA tweeted. “Probably in my top three least favorite conditions to drive in.”

Mollet advised travelers to plan ahead due to traffic and weather. Additional scattered showers were expected later in the day, according to the Weather Authority forecast.

“Generally everything else looks good, but this morning it’s wet and messy,” explained NBC Washington traffic anchor Melissa Mollet.

The cause of the accident was not immediately released.
