Aventura police officer arrested for alleged kidnapping and assault

An Aventura police officer has been arrested on alleged kidnapping and other serious charges following an incident in Broward County, authorities said.

David Esteban Delgado, 30, was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) on Wednesday and faces two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, battery and alleged involvement in a criminal offense with a weapon, jail records show.

Aventura police officials said the alleged incident involving Delgado occurred in Pompano Beach on the night of May 20.

Two people filed a complaint alleging abuse of authority and false arrest, police said.

An internal affairs investigation was launched and Delgado was initially suspended with pay, authorities said.

BSO’s Public Corruption Division has also launched an investigation and decided to proceed with the charges, authorities said.

After his arrest, Delgado was suspended without pay, Aventura police said.

“We have fully cooperated with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation,” Aventura police said in a statement. “We will not comment further until our Internal Affairs Unit has completed a thorough investigation and consulted with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.”

Records showed Delgado was booked into jail Wednesday. The lawyer’s information was not available.

No other details about the arrest were immediately available.
