The Yacine Mihoub affair had shaken the whole of France. He had killed Mirelle Knoll, an elderly Holocaust survivor, widow and living alone. In addition, she suffered from Parkinson’s disease and only moved around in a wheelchair.
It was on Friday March 23, 2018, that the woman’s body was found lifeless, partly burned and with 11 stab wounds.
Soon his killer was found. His neighbour, a 28-year-old Franco-Algerian at the time named Yacine, was accused. It should be known that the crime was recognized as having an anti-Semitic character. Indeed, Mireille Knoll had fled Paris in 1942 to escape the deportation of Jews to the Nazi death camps.
It should be noted that Yacine, was his neighbor for twenty years, and knew very well the history and the situation of the woman.
Following the facts, Yacine Mihoub was sentenced to life imprisonment with a security period of 22 years by the Paris Assize Court. His accomplice Alex Carrimbacus was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with a third of the sentence suspended. Mihoub’s mother was sentenced to three years for destroying evidence. He then appealed but finally withdrew according to his lawyer.

Yacine Mihoub: a final sentence

As previously stated, Yacine’s sentence is now final as there will be no second trial. He had appealed to have his judgment reviewed but apparently withdrew. Following this decision, the procedure will be definitively closed.
According to the French media francetvinfo, his co-accused Alex Carrimbacus had already withdrawn his appeal. With regard to his conviction, the outcome of the trial was not favourable, he “had been acquitted of the murder but sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment, with a two-thirds security sentence, for aggravated theft”, according to the same source.
His charges were such, given the aggravating circumstances surrounding this case. The 85-year-old woman was indeed very weak and helpless.
