At 78 farms throughout Germany, over 100 interested people were able to immerse themselves in the life of a farmer for a day and experience first-hand how diverse and demanding this profession is. From working in the stables to milking cows to picking fruit and vegetables, there was something for everyone. Influencer Tarik was allowed to lend a hand at the “Kruses Hof” in Lehrte/Immensen near Hanover. He was enthusiastic about the opportunity to get an insight into working on a farm and was able to gain valuable experience. Among other things, Tarik moderates the podcast “Let´s talk Milch” from the Milk Initiative, so the topic of milk production is particularly interesting for him. “I’d love to come back for milking, maybe in a pink jumpsuit‘ Tariq jokes.

Above all, the topic of sustainability concerns agriculture and society in equal measure. “We have to take society’s needs and desires for more sustainability, animal welfare and climate protection seriously. We have ideas for solutions and want to invest, but for this we need a society that walks this path with us“, says Lea Fliess, managing director of the Forum Moderne Landwirtschaft.

Consumers want transparency and want to see that agriculture takes the issues of climate and animal welfare seriously. “Unfortunately, there is less and less exchange and encounters with farmers in everyday life. That’s why we want to give people the opportunity to look behind the scenes and discover where their food comes from“, emphasizes Lea Fliess. Because the key to the transformation to more sustainability in agriculture is “more appreciation from society for the work that is done on the farms every day”, so flow on.

Environmental protection, improved working conditions and more animal welfare are the focus of the transformation. Consumers play an important role in more sustainable food production. Through conscious consumption and the purchase of regional and seasonal products, you can help to increase the demand for sustainably produced food and thus protect the climate.

The “Farmer for a Day” campaign day will continue to take place annually in the future and is intended to help promote understanding and appreciation for agriculture in society. Next year, the action day is planned for May 25, 2024. Interested parties can apply for an internship from January 2024.
