This sports star probably imagined the evening differently after a successful game. The victory of the Los Angeles Lakers against the San Antonio Spurs (113:104) actually promised a nice end to the day. But things turned out differently. The evening ended with an unexpected experience for Lakers player Dennis Schröder.

The police put a spanner in the works for the German international. He was stopped on Thursday after the game against the San Antonio Spurs. At a gas station, Schröder had to lie down on the ground with his arms and legs spread. Then the 29-year-old found himself in handcuffs. Video footage of the incident circulated. Schröder is now explaining the police operation.

In a YouTube video on his channel, he tells what happened on that day: According to this, the player from Braunschweig was stopped by the police after the game against San Antonio. At a gas station, the Lakers point guard found himself handcuffed to the ground. A scary situation.
“When I was with them, they lowered my arms and gave me handcuffs. But also really jerkily. And I’m like: Huh, what happened?” he says in the seven-minute video.
The whole action must have caused quite a stir. Because: Apparently, not only a police patrol provided the basketball professional, as he continues:
“If I tell you, there were 20, 25, 30 cars at the end. Real alarm. I see shotguns, pistols, Uzis and I have no idea what weapons they had. It was like being a criminal, he did anything. It was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

After police shock: Schröder clears up misunderstanding
It took a few minutes before the basketball pro was able to clarify the misunderstanding with the police. The background: According to Schröder, the police probably thought that his vehicle was a stolen car.
Instead, the license plate came from his Cadillac, an earlier vehicle that he sold in 2022. He then explained this to the police. Successfully. He was allowed to go. Afterwards, everyone “came home safely”.

The video quickly garnered numerous reactions. His fans expressed their sympathy to him on YouTube, others were sometimes amused.
Criticism of the behavior of the police was also raised. One person wrote: “These are situations that really scare me in the USA. The cops are not squeamish there and you don’t know how a situation like this can end.” A fan thinks: “Holy shit, what a story. It’s good that it turned out to be so positive.”
Does he stay or does he go? Borussia Dortmund is still awaiting Jude Bellingham’s decision on whether or not he wants to stay in Dortmund. If he wants to leave, he will probably leave BVB in the summer and take the next step – the fee could then be up to 150 million euros.
