The Algerians end the year 2022 with very good news. In 2023, wages, retirement pensions, but also unemployment benefits will be revised upwards.

Announced this Sunday, December 25 by a press release from the last meeting of the Council of Ministers for 2022. The increase in wages and allowances is already reacting on social networks, but before moving on to that. Let’s talk about the figures put forward by the Minister of Labor on the file.

Youcef Cherfa provides some figures on the increase in wages

Speaking this Sunday evening on the set of national television. The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Youcef Cherfa gives some figures concerning this wage increase.

Considered to be the first responsible for the file of the increase in wages and pensions. Youcef Cherfa announces that more than 2.8 million Algerians will be affected by this revaluation, including workers and retirees.

Along the same lines, the minister points out that public sector workers will benefit from a salary increase varying between 47 and 50 percent. When does this increase take effect? According to Youcef Cherfa, this increase will be gradual during the two years of 2023 and 2024.

“During 2023 and 2024, the first workers in the education sector, namely teachers. They will be affected by an increase of approximately 13,800 Algerian dinars”, specifies the minister.

“During the same period, low-income workers will also see their salaries increase. Indeed, the increase will vary between 4500 and 8500 Algerian dinars”, adds the same source.

What about the unemployed and retirees?

As recently as the end of the day, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune gave several instructions to those responsible for the employment and labor sector, headed by Minister Youcef Cherfa.

During the meeting of the Council of Ministers which he chaired. The Head of State ordered the increase of the minimum threshold of the retirement pension to 15,000 DZD for those who received an allowance of less than 10,000 Algerian dinars.

But not only. He also ordered an increase for those who received a pension of 15,000 Algerian dinars. They will increase from 2023 to 20,000 DZD.

During the same meeting, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune also ordered the increase of the unemployment benefit from 13,000 DZD to 15,000 Algerian dinars.

According to the press release from the Council of Ministers, the new amount of unemployment benefit will be 15,000 dinars net of tax. “The State will assume the costs of health coverage for the unemployed during the period of benefit from the allowance”, underlines the same source.

With these new increases announced a few days before the date of the new year 2023. The Algerians end the year 2022 in style. On social networks, some Internet users have not hidden their joy. On the other hand, there are also those who have criticized the “minimal” increase in the allowance. Certainly the increase is only 2,000 more, but it should be remembered that this pension for the unemployed did not exist a year ago.
