A 9-year-old Hispanic girl died of a gunshot wound to the head made by Michael Goodman, allegedly annoyed by the noise of her and other minors playing in the Portage Park neighborhood In Chicago.
The facts were reported at about 9:40 pm on Saturday.
The Chicago Police Department report indicates that the suspect, 43, approached a group from across the street in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue and shot the victim.
Little Serabi Medina had bought ice cream in a truck and was riding her scooter back home when she was shot.
The girl was transported in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s father said he witnessed the entire incident. and that at one point he tried to wrest the gun from Goodman. In the middle of the confrontation, the alleged gunman was shot in the face and had to be transported to a hospital.
Megan Kelley, a neighbor, told the Chicago Sun-Times that Goodman confronted Sarabi and her father because they were allegedly making a lot of noise..
“It just doesn’t make sense. nothing makes sense”, Kelley told the newspaper. “Everyone in the community would have told him that they are children having fun playing. Just let them be,” added the witness.
Kelley added that Sarabi’s mother was killed in a 2018 shooting.. The circumstances of the event are unknown.
“She was a vibrant little girl,” described the relative Angee González Rodríguez in statements to WGN. “There was no reason for her to die. There’s no reason to shoot anyone to begin with, but why a child?” she questioned.
Goodman is in custody and faces first degree murder charges.. Precisely, this Tuesday he must appear at a court hearing in relation to the case.
