• Netflix lowers prices in 30 countries
  • France is not concerned
  • This strategy aims to attract new subscribers

For several months, Netflix seems to be making all the decisions to boost its subscribers. End of account sharing, offer with advertising, cancellation of series with a vengeance… Not to mention the regular increase in the prices of its formulas. The love story of serivores and Netflix is in bad shape. But the platform just surprised us. In around thirty countries, Netflix has lowered its prices. Unfortunately, France is not concerned.

2022 hasn’t been the best year for Netflix. Indeed, the platform has experienced a sharp drop in its number of subscribers and the imminent end of free account sharing is not likely to help matters in 2023. While the competition has more and more arguments, Netflix must wake up if it wants to keep its leading position in the SVOD market.

To keep and bring in new subscribers, there are not hundreds of solutions. In the eyes of Netflix, lower prices seem most relevant to attract new customers.

Thus, users in around thirty countries will be able to take advantage of lower prices, sometimes by half. Among the countries concerned in Europe, we find Croatia, Bulgaria and Slovenia. The price drop also affects the Middle East (Iran, Libya, Jordan), Africa (Kenya), Asia (Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia) and South America (Ecuador, Venezuela, Nicaragua) .

Netflix wants new subscribers

If Netflix has not explicitly explained the choice of these countries, we imagine that it is a question of the places where the platform works the least well. Reducing subscription prices will likely encourage new people to succumb to the lures of the platform, rather than subscribing to competitors’ offers. Both Disney+ and Prime Video have recently increased their prices to match the current trend.

It remains to be seen whether Netflix will apply this new strategy to more countries, such as possibly France. Note that the chances are unlikely but we are not immune to a surprise. For many subscribers, the end of free account sharing seems like the final straw. Nothing is good enough to retain its users…

While the imminent end of account sharing is a really risky bet, Netflix is doing its best to limit the pots. Only a few months ago, the platform unveiled a new formula, cheaper but with advertising. If this decision has caused a lot of ink to flow, it is clear that it has allowed the SVOD to regain the hair of the beast.
