As part of the “Hot Pod Summit” at the On-Air Fest in Brooklyn, Kai Chuck announcedthat podcasts will be moving into YouTube Music in the near future. In a way, the custom radio station feature for YouTube Music has already cast its shadow.

In a way, YouTube Music then becomes an additional podcast app. Podcasts can also be streamed for free users on the locked screen. In the first move, they want to focus on audio. But they were already talking about future plans. On the one hand, they want to standardize audio and video experiences, on the other hand, it should also be possible in the future to start a podcast on one device and continue it on another device. In addition, it should also include a publication via RSS feed to the other plans. YouTube Studio should also offer support for setting up videos as podcasts.

Podcasts via YouTube Music will initially only be supported in the USA. Video podcasts should also be found alongside pure audio podcasts. Other regions are to follow in the future. There will be audio ads for the podcasts. It can be assumed that YouTube Premium subscribers are left out. Podcasts should be recommended to users based on their listening habits. There is a dedicated podcast tab in the room for YouTube channels.

By the way: Google Podcasts will continue to exist for the time being. The app will probably disappear gradually.
