Google has just announced the arrival of new features of Google Photos specific to the latest Pixel, on other devices. Among these, the Magic Eraser function which will be available on Android and iOS.
The advanced features of Google Photos that the Mountain View company has so far only reserved for Pixel 6 and 7 will be deployed on other Android devices, but also on iPhones. Nevertheless, there is a major prerequisite to be able to benefit from it. These features will only be available to Google One subscribers. A subscription to the cheapest offer (billed at 1.99 euros per month) is a priori sufficient to be eligible.
Magic Eraser is coming to iOS
Magic Eraser is arguably the most interesting feature that users will be able to take advantage of. Driven by Google’s artificial intelligence, it is able to automatically detect the elements of a photo that affect its quality (or its beauty). A garbage can, a power line, a pole or even a photobomber came to pollute a family photo? In one tap (or almost), Magic Eraser will remove these unsightly elements from the image. The function also includes a “camouflage” mode. When used, this allows you to change the color of an element present in the image so that it blends into the background to be forgotten.
HDR filters on videos and new collages
Another new feature coming for Google One subscribers is the ability to apply an HDR filter to their videos. The option, which until now could only be applied to still images, can now be used to improve the brightness and contrast of your videos stored in Google Photos.
The Mountain View company also took the opportunity to update its collage editor. According to Google, all Google Photos users can now choose to style only one photo used in a collage. In addition, new styles of collages will be deployed for Pixel smartphone users, as well as Google One subscribers. Finally, if you sometimes happen to use the photo printing service that Google, and you are subscribed to Google One, you will automatically benefit from free shipping on all print orders placed from the application.
The Mountain View firm specifies that these new features are being rolled out for all Pixel smartphone users, as well as for all Google One members, regardless of the subscribed offer. As the deployment is being carried out gradually, it is likely that these new functions will not be immediately available on your device.
