A new crash generates traffic on southbound I-95 in northeast Philadelphia this Friday morning, so authorities recommend avoiding taking the interstate highway.

The traffic congestion was apparently caused by a power pole that fell just before 5:30 a.m.

The State Road closure forced drivers off southbound I-95 into the streets of the Tacony neighborhood.

The pole along State Road apparently fell on a car, police told NBC10.

KYW Newsradio, sister station to NBC10, reported that a truck apparently cut the wires, causing the pole to fall on the car.

At 6:30 am, car traffic was again allowed on State Road, however no trucks or larger vehicles were allowed.

What routes to take? Southbound drivers should avoid Northeast Philadelphia entirely. You can cross the Burlington-Bristol Bridge into New Jersey and then return to I-95 by crossing one of the Delaware River bridges south of the collapse site.

You can also take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to access the Schuylkill Expressway or Roosevelt Blvd as alternatives. Or you can just start your journey on US Route 1.
