The often well-informed gaming insider uses Twitter Tom Henderson Position on current rumors about the possible Slim and Pro successors to the PlayStation 5, which will be available since autumn 2020. Although Sony is still unable to fully meet the high demand, new consoles have been talked about for months. Henderson, however, only assumes a new revision of the PS5.
Will we even see a PS5 Pro or Slim?
“I don’t think it’s a Pro or a Slim. In my opinion, it’s just the second generation of the normal PS5,” the expert explains. According to his unconfirmed information, the production of the currently rolling PlayStation 5 console is scheduled to end at the end of this year. Production of the “Gen 2” should start in April for a smooth transition, so that a first delivery could take place in September. With an optional external Blu-ray drive, the previously split production of the PlayStation 5 and the drive-free Digital Edition can be combined. First and foremost a cost saving for Sony, says Henderson. He is also revising his predictions for a possible PS5 Pro model. Not only is the current generation not yet exhausted, his contacts are already talking more about the PlayStation 6 (PS6) instead of a possible PlayStation 5 Pro.
Short review: There were seven years between the launch of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Slim and Pro offshoots followed three years after the launch of the PS4. The new PS5 revision would therefore fit into Sony’s scheme in terms of time. The PlayStation 6, however, is not.
