Scott McTominay is hugely popular at Newcastle United. As reported by The Athletic, the Magpies are keen to sign the Manchester United midfielder before the end of January. Newcastle have already had talks about the potential transfer but the Red Devils don’t want to sell the 26-year-old in this transfer window. However, coach Eddie Howe’s team will have to wait until the summer.

Except for top performer Bruno Guimarães, there is currently no other six in the Newcastle squad. In addition, McTominay has a significantly different player profile than the Brazilian. The Scot gets most of the playing time (24 appearances) under Erik ten Hag, but he has two big competitors ahead of him in central midfield in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. McTominay’s contract with United runs until 2025. The Telegraph reported last week that Newcastle were interested in the right-footed man.
