From the coming season, NFL fans in Germany will have to get used to some innovations. The transmitting station changes first. American football will no longer be shown on ProSieben in the future, but on RTL from the broadcast of the NFL draft (April 28 to 30).
This is accompanied by a new team of moderators and experts. So far, four faces have been identified: Sebastian Vollmer, Markus Kuhn, Jan Stecker and Alex von Kuczkowski. More could follow, as Stephan Schmitter, RTL program director, recently confirmed in a “Faz” interview.
RTL wants to introduce radio broadcast of the NFL
In addition to the new television broadcast and the new moderator team, there will be another innovation in the German NFL cosmos. Along with the television rights, RTL also bought the American Football League’s radio and audio rights.

RTL intends to make use of these rights. A spokesman confirmed when asked by watson: “RTL Deutschland is pursuing a cross-platform approach that, in addition to free TV and streaming offerings, also includes audio reporting, among other things.”
Especially for people who travel a lot, the football season could be followed in audio formats. In addition, the fans should be involved in the RTL format. The spokesman for the station added: “The German NFL fan clubs now have the opportunity to be part of the planning of a new radio stream right from the start and to actively participate.”
How exactly the process of such a radio stream will be is currently open. However, it is clear that RTL will take a new path as a result. So far, the German football broadcast has been dominated by “Ran” on ProSieben and Sat.1. Between 2012 and 2023, public interest in the NFL in Germany steadily increased. The Super Bowl 2021 reached the absolute peak in the audience quota.
Back then, 2.11 million viewers watched the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs in the middle of the night. The Bucs were able to beat Patrick Mahomes 31-9 with star quarterback Tom Brady.
In the future, RTL will hope for similar quotas. However, Tom Brady will no longer lure football fans in front of the television. The 45-year-old ended his career after the past season.
