In the midst of the controversy that was generated by the academic reform that the government of Axel Kicillof tried to approve in the General Council of Education, the director of Culture and Education, Alberto Sileoniconfirmed that it was decided to postpone its resolution although he defended the project: “No one who does not pass all the subjects will graduate from high school”.

In a press conference that the head of the Buenos Aires Education portfolio gave after the Council meeting, he questioned Together for Change and denied that the official project was seeking “lower the rod” of the school system. For which he informed that for now it was only decided to postpone the discussion. As previously reported, the national education portfolio also supported the initiative.

“We believe that the Secondary School must be modified. We take a path, of course it can be debatable. Those who governed between 2016 and 2019 and did not take any path are discussing our path ”, Sileoni replied, and questioned: “What mark has Macrismo left on Argentine education and Vidalista on Buenos Aires education?” .

Sileoni assured that “it was never foreseen that the proposal would be implemented this year” school that begins on March 1, and argued that the debate was bogged down by an “electoral dispute.” Likewise, he stated: “We are going to continue working on it, although we have left the discussion in the General Council, we have time to discuss it because we were not going to implement them this year.”

“In no way can the discussion be trivialized to repeaters yes or repeaters no. Repetition is not the central theme, it is 110 years old. Imagine how the world has changed since 1910, how complex society has become and we cannot discuss repetition because there is a deep matrix that seems to prevent us from getting out of this scheme”, lamented Sileoni.

Then he wondered if Is it necessary to change high school? And he listed the reasons that make the modifications necessary. “Someone may think that it is an invention of the minister and his team. We go school by school, we talk to teachers, students, families. Secondary school needs to be changed. Of 100 boys who start, 60 finish on time, another 20 save in a while and another 20 drop out, ”he said.

The provincial official warned: “We have problems in the learning processes and we know a painful sequence: you repeat once, you dress up as a hero and come back. You repeat again and drop out of school. They do not abandon boys from all social classes, they only abandon some boys who cannot have a state that accompanies them”, he founded.

On the other hand, Alberto Sileoni contextualized the project as part of the changes in “the initial level curriculum design, adult education, special education, extension of class hours. We have invested in 25 thousand charges in Buenos Aires education”.

“We do not propose facilitation, no one should approve what they do not know. The right is to study, it is not to pass. No one who does not pass all the subjects will graduate from high school. It is false to follow what they say about populism. It’s not going to be like that”he stressed.
