According to some rumours, Sony is set to release a brand new version of their popular Playstation 5 soon. The main difference here is that the console’s drive can be removed and reattached at will. In addition, it was said that the new version should also have significantly more power than the standard model, but as Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson now reported, this is unfortunately not the case.

We’ll have to wait a little longer for a Playstation 5 with more power

how Henderson explained on Twitter, there were probably no major changes to the hardware of the new Playstation 5 (buy now €699.99 ). The removable drive may also not work with currently available digital versions of the console. Sony also wants to sell the drive separately in case it breaks for any reason, so many owners of the digital version were happy to just be able to buy the drive. According to Henderson, however, these users now have to resort to the new model.

The Playstation 5 with removable disc drive is said to be released in September this year and has been in production since November 2020. The drive itself is said to attach to the back of the console via a USB-C port. At the launch, users can probably buy the console either separately or in a bundle with the drive.

Recently, Sony has screwed up the weight of the Playstation 5 a little, which means that newer models are now a little lighter than before. Fans will probably have to wait a little longer for a more powerful version when the company eventually releases a Pro version of the Playstation 5.
