On the sidelines of his supervision of the launch of the national open doors on export of olive oil and its derivatives, the Minister of Commerce, Kamel Rezig mentioned the ambitions of the Algerian government regarding the export of olive oil. Indeed, the responsible authorities aim to promote Algerian products internationally. This is part of the diversification of exports excluding hydrocarbons.
It should be noted in this wake that this initiative aims to promote Algerian olive oil and its derivatives through the 58 wilayas of the country. And this, by the organization of fairs throughout the national territory. As a reminder, the ministry plans to organize a fair of local products in Mauritania, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In detail, this event will see the participation of 160 Algerian companies in different sectors.
Rezig said his department will organize other such initiatives. In particular, in other African countries, the Gulf countries or even in Europe. Given the high quality of Algerian olive oil and the enormous capacities of this sector, the promotion of this industry on an international scale is now essential.
According to the revelations of the first head of the commercial sector, the olive oil industry is present in nearly 30 wilayas of the country. To this end, Rezig said that several workshops will be set up soon to detect the shortcomings in the export of this product.

Regarding the export of olive oil, Rezig revealed the figures reached so far. In detail, Algerian oil is present in 19 countries around the world. In 2021, Algeria exported nearly 600,000 liters of this material via 78 exporting companies. Which is the equivalent of two million dollars, indicates the senior official.
However, Rezig believes that these figures are not up to the capacity of the sector. Moreover, they do not reflect the high quality of “Made in Algeria” olive oil. In addition, the economist said that Algeria plans to redouble its efforts in order to achieve the objectives set by the end of 2024. In particular, export the equivalent of 5 million dollars of olive oil. . And this, for 50 countries around the world. And thus participate in reaching 15 billion dollars excluding hydrocarbons.
