The big releases of February 2023

Love and Death: a superb reissue of a horror masterpiece

Mangetsu continues to publish Junji Itō’s seminal works with the release of Love and Death, a collection featuring some of the very best short stories from the master of horror. In this volume, we thus find five stories dedicated to the theme of the pangs of the heart: The Strange Hikizuri Siblings in two chapters, The House of Phantom Pains, The ribs, The memory of the turd more real than lifebut above all Love and Death in five chapters. This last story shares its title with this volume, but has already reached us in 2013 under the name The Loving Death. We discover the strange city of Nazimi. In the heart of its alleys, perpetually immersed in a thick fog, the inhabitants indulge in an old tradition of clairvoyance. But when this practice leads to a wave of suicide, a chilling rumor begins to circulate: Death is navigating the winding streets in the guise of a young man of unparalleled beauty. A chilling, moving, and terribly gripping story. A must-read for those who curse Valentine’s Day in February.

DanDaDan: the mixture of genres in the service of a delirious shōnen

One Piece as you've never seen it before, the return of a horror masterpiece... manga releases for the month of February 2023

Take a little sci-fi, Japanese folk-horror, add a good pinch of rom-com and action and you get DanDadan, an excellent shōnen by Yukinobu Tatsu. Former assistant of Tatsuki Fujimoto, the young mangaka was undoubtedly largely inspired by the mixture of tones present in his elder, but nevertheless tells us a much lighter story than that of Chainsaw Man. This month, it is volume 4 that reaches us, including chapters 24 to 32. Okarun, Momo and Aira are caught in the middle of a confrontation with the aliens of Serpo, who seek… to seize the reproductive organs of our protagonists. Still just as effective, Dandadan is therefore continuing its publication with us under the Crunchyroll banner. The manga should, except change of plan, be entitled to an anime adaptation in the near future. If you want to get ahead, know that the chapters are pre-published every week on the Manga Plus application of the Shueisha.

Ranking of Kings: never has a seinen been so moving

One Piece as you've never seen it before, the return of a horror masterpiece... manga releases for the month of February 2023

Prepare the handkerchiefs: Bojji and Ombre return this month with the release of volume 6 of Ranking of Kings, a seinen as moving as it is epic. If you have already seen the anime, you should know that the publication of the manga in France is a step behind what has already been told to us. In this volume 6, Bojji and Ombre continue their journey to the kingdom of Bosse after the little prince has followed Despa’s teachings. Determined to save his brother and the queen, our hero is quickly overtaken by the knights of Desha. For her part, Queen Hiling, ready to do anything to get her son back, meets a mysterious woman called Miranjo. This is the beginning of a mad race against time. Epic, humor and a hell of a dose of emotion collide in this gripping story from start to finish. Plan something to wipe your face to prevent your tears from flowing on the pages of your brand new tome.

JoJolion: the longest part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is coming to an end!

One Piece as you've never seen it before, the return of a horror masterpiece... manga releases for the month of February 2023

A new page turns for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with the conclusion of JoJolion, the eighth part of the cult manga started in 1986. This part followed Steelball Run which introduced a change of timeline in the universe of the Joestar family. With this 27th volume, JoJolion becomes the longest part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. We follow the adventures of Josuke Higashikata (not to be confused with the eponymous protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable), a young man with amnesia found naked on the beach of the small town of Morio. After ten years of publication, JoJolion is finally coming to an end. The eternal Hirohiko Araki will then continue his flagship work with the ninth part entitled JOJOLANDS, which will feature a descendant of Joseph Joestar (JoJolion). To conclude this part in the best way, this volume will be entitled to a collector’s edition including ten postcards and a card holder.

One Piece Episode A: when two manga monsters meet

One Piece as you've never seen it before, the return of a horror masterpiece... manga releases for the month of February 2023

Glénat is pleased to offer this month the first volume of One Piece Episode Aa spin-off chronicling the past of Portgas D. Ace, a story already told in the novel One Piece Novel A (One Piece Roman Ace with us) published in 2019. Except that this new adaptation includes a significant particularity: everything is drawn by Boichi, the mangaka behind Dr Stone And Sun Ken Rock. His particular style is here put to the service of the emblematic characters created by the great Eiichiro Oda, the time of four chapters which return to the origins of Luffy’s big brother. As a bonus, this first volume also includes a revisit of chapter 51 of the original work – Zoro falls into the water – always with the singular feature of Boichi.

My Happy Marriage: in search of happiness

One Piece as you've never seen it before, the return of a horror masterpiece... manga releases for the month of February 2023

New entry in the French manga catalog, My Happy Marriage arrives in February. Originally, Akumi Akitogi’s work was a web novel whose success led to the development of a manga adaptation. Alternate history anchored in the 19th century during the Meiji era, we follow Miyo Saimori, the heiress of an eminent Japanese family. However, unlike the other members of her family, Miyo does not possess any supernatural powers. She is therefore forced to live a life of servitude by her stepmother and sister, while her father completely ignores her. What’s more, his best friend decided to marry his sister to lead the Saimori clan. And when she reaches marriageable age, she is promised to Kiyoka Kudo, heir to the Kudo family, known to be a tough and ruthless man. On the verge of despair, the young woman finally realizes that her young husband has nothing of the portrait that is painted of him. Both a historical narrative and a fantasy romance, My Happy Marriage ticks several boxes that make it a multi-faceted work, a story that will appeal to a wide readership. A beautiful story that begins this month.
