Order prevents TLC from issuing licenses to Uber and Lyft

The New York Taxi Drivers Alliance obtained a temporary restraining order to stop the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission from issuing new licenses for the pairing of additional cars with applications such as Uber and Lyft.

The commission will not be able to continue accepting applications for new FHV licenses starting this Monday the 13th at 9 in the morning and this while the case continues.

Applications that are already in progress will be processed. Likewise, requests for car licenses with access for people with wheelchairs will continue, since they are not part of the legal process.

The TLC ended the cap on ride-sharing cars in October, aiming to promote the use of electric vehicles in the industry.

But the New York Taxi Drivers Alliance assures that this would cause a collapse in drivers’ income, in addition to worsening traffic congestion.
