The Berlin police have significantly expanded their checks on gun owners in recent years. There were 11,761 such controls last year, the Senate replied to an AfD request. As a result, significantly more gun permits were revoked or withdrawn than before.
In 2021 there were around 10,000 reviews dealing with the Reliability and suitability of gun owners goes. In 2020 there were around 8,000 such processes and in 2016 and 2017 around 5,300 each.
While 277 gun permits were revoked by the police in 2016, the number rose from 381 (2018) and 668 (2020) to 832 (2022). That was a fourfold increase since 2015.
Last year, around 48,000 privately owned weapons that can fire projectiles were stored in the National Weapons Register (NWR) for Berlin. (dpa)
