NEW YORK — Almost a month after the robbery at a Bronx bodega, the business will have a panic button installed on Thursday as a way of security against these types of crimes.

The robbery occurred on May 12 at the warehouse Las Yaris Deli Foodlocated at 400 E. 143rd Street, in the Bronx. And this is just one of the stores that are targeted and robbed in New York City.

The installation of the panic button is given thanks to an association between National Retail Solutions (NRS) and the coalition of Bodega and Small Business Group, (BSBG), who seek to help protect the warehouses in the midst of an ongoing series of robberies and assaults at these stores.

“Our warehouses are targeted by gangs and other violent criminals,” said Francisco Marte, president of BSBG. “We asked NRS to help our merchants because their panic alarm button is an essential security service that allows our stores to safely alert the NYPD in an emergency.”

With warehouse crime on the rise, NRS is also donating warehouse panic alarm systems in all five boroughs at no cost. The NRS alarm button allows the cashier to silently and discreetly call the local police during a robbery or other emergency.

The cost of the panic button unit is from $500 to $999 and keep around $10 per month or around 120 per year. NRS is donating these lifesaving units, which is complementary to the Bronx Community Grant effort.
