Khartoum, 15 Apr. The Rapid Support Forces (FAR) paramilitary group accused the Sudanese Army on Saturday of attacking it with heavy weapons at one of its bases after weeks of tension between the two units, in what represents a serious escalation in the country.

“The Rapid Support Forces were surprised this morning, Saturday April 15, by a large unit of the armed forces entering the headquarters of the forces in the Soba camp in Khartoum, besieging the forces present to attack them with all kinds of of heavy and light weapons”, according to a statement from the group, led by the vice president of the Sovereign Council and number two in the Army, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias “Hemedti”.

Two days ago, the Sudanese Army warned that the country is going through a “dangerous situation” that could lead to armed conflict after units of the FAR, the most powerful paramilitary group in Sudan, “mobilized” in the capital Khartoum and other cities. EFE
