• The latest Bugatti Chiron found a buyer at auction
    • The price is a record for a new car from the brand: 10.7 million dollars
    • Problem: a photo session to present the model pissed off the Paris City Hall

Luxury is not disconnected from all reality. Nor even can he free himself from the rules, from the laws. The City of Paris has just recalled this week after Bugatti revealed photos taken on a cycle path. The special photo session, to promote the last of the Chiron, was taken from the famous Bir-Hakeim bridge, known by some as the “Inception bridge” in reference to its presence in Christopher Nolan’s film.

“The cycle paths in Paris, it’s a dream but it’s for bikes! No permission for this photoshoot has been given. And it will only be a fine of €135 for parking on a cycle path…”declared for his part the first Deputy Mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, in charge of urban planning, architecture, Greater Paris, relations with the boroughs and the transformation of public policies.

A few hours after the publication of these photos on social networks, Bugatti participated in an auction and the model went for the colossal sum of 10.7 million dollars. The Sotheby’s auction house, which estimated it between 4.5 and 6 million dollars, had no trouble raising the stakes. It must be said that this model, called “Profile”, is unique. It is also, and above all, the last example of the Chiron line.

Thermal motor

Due to the situation of Bugatti, which is currently passing from the hands of Volkswagen to those of the Bugatti-Rimac group, this model is in a way the end of an era. The strategy for the new chapter is not to say goodbye to thermal engines but the next model expected for this year will include a new engine. For its new owner, who has agreed to spend more than 10 million dollars, the acquisition of the Chiron Profilée will be a real investment.

On the side of the Paris City Hall, other elected officials did not fail to react. David Belliard, an assistant to Anne Hidalgo, commented: “Blocking a cycle path to advertise a vehicle that consumes 41L/100 in the city with a disastrous carbon footprint… The cynicism of these publicists knows no bounds. And no, no permission was given for this stuff”, he wrote. Others criticized this vision, defending the interest of such photos for the influence of our heritage, while the sale and these photos have been seen all over the world and Bugattis are made in France in Alsace.
