An 88-year-old drunk hit a 19-year-old pedestrian in Rankweil early Wednesday evening. He was injured to an unspecified degree.

An 88-year-old car driver was driving along the L50 in Rankweil in the direction of Sulz on Wednesday at around 5.45 p.m. when he saw a pedestrian crossing the protection path there at the level of the Volksband. The vehicle hit the 19-year-old with full force, throwing him onto the windshield of the car. The young man had to be admitted to Feldkirch Regional Hospital with injuries of an unspecified degree.

The driver of the car was not fit to drive

An alcohol mat test carried out on both parties involved in the accident revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.3 for the car driver. Further attempts to determine the degree of alcohol in the 88-year-old failed, which is why a medical officer was called in. A subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the car was not fit to drive at the time of the accident. His driver’s license was then confiscated.
