You are currently viewing PNL is preparing to govern with PSD even after 2024. Bode: It is the most stable and forward-looking political construction

The General Secretary of the PNL, Lucian Bode, stated, on Sunday evening, that there was no discussion in the party about the formation of the so-called democratic block with the PSD, and the liberals want to win the elections. However, he believes that a governing alliance with the PSD is “the most stable and future-oriented political construction”, currently the two big parties governing “without too many breaks”.

Lucian Bode was asked, on Sunday evening, on Digi 24, about the formation of the democratic bloc and he answered: “I don’t know, I haven’t heard this about the democratic bloc being discussed in the National Liberal Party.”

The general secretary of the liberals believes that the discussion must start from the dowry of the PNL.

“The discussion must start with what the National Liberal Party has today, the PNL dowry. 1,256 mayors, 119 parliamentarians, 17 presidents of county councils, over 14,000 local councilors, of which 1,000 young people under 35 and 2,000 women in local administration, 10 MEPs. A party that, for three and a half years, assumed the responsibility of governing, that took Romania through overlapping crises”, Lucian Bode also affirmed.

Asked if the PNL pays for these crises, Bode said: “It pays like all the parties that are eroding in government pay.”

“The National Liberal Party is constant at 19-21% (…) It is a big party, a party that cannot afford not to propose winning the elections as its objective”, added the general secretary of the PNL.

He stated that the liberals want the continuation of the government, from 2024, with the PSD.

“Now governance is eroding. We want to continue governing after 2024. With PSD. Because we are not talking about extremists, and those who were in government for eight months and ran away from government, I mean USR, do not have the responsibility of assuming when it is difficult in government. What should we discuss with them?!”, Bode also declared.

Asked if he excludes from the start the option of a right-wing alliance with USR and PMP, Bode answered: “I don’t exclude this option, I’m sure I don’t exclude it, but I say the most rational approach. Today, we are in government together. We can govern together from next year for another 4 years, together with the PSD. It is the most stable and future political construction. We have shown that we can govern together, without major rifts, but our obligation is to strengthen the right to continue to be the most important party on the right side”.

Bode also announced that he will merge with ALDE, which will bring almost 900 local elected representatives.

“PNL will win the presidential elections”

Lucian Bode states that the 2024 presidential elections will also be won by the PNL, despite PSD’s natural desire to win this electoral battle.

“The National Liberal Party will give the president of the country in 2024 as well. It did very well to give the president of Romania for 20 years. Romania is on a very good Euro-Atlantic path, we can continue to develop in this partnership. PSD certainly wants to have a candidate who wins. They wanted this for 20 years. It is natural that it should be so, but the National Liberal Party, with the dowry it has, with what the National Liberal Party has done in the last three and a half years assuming the government, has all the prerequisites to give, not a candidate, but the future president of Romania”, declared Lucian Bode.

He believes that it is very important for the PNL to convince the Romanians, starting from the first round of elections in 2024.

“The stake of the European parliamentary elections is also a civilizational one, if you like (…) We will have to choose between the Euro-Atlantic civilization and the Putinist model. I take what I say. The Putinist model means circus, aggressive scandalmongers and propaganda. I mean extremists, I mean GOLD. Romanians will have to choose between the two models”, Bode also stated.
