Police: Suspect put fentanyl in his wife's food and killed her

ELK GROVE, California – Elk Grove police have just arrested Glennis Smith for allegedly murdering his wife with fentanyl last January.

According to reports, the suspect would have tried to poison Jennifer Smith Floyd with the deadly opioid by placing it in the woman’s food.

Authorities point out that at least twice the man added fentanyl to Jennifer’s food, resulting in death on January 12.

That day, the same suspect called 911 reporting that his wife was unconscious and not breathing. When the paramedics arrived, they gave her the necessary first aid, but Jennifer Smith-Floyd lost her life.

The Smiths were married for 5 years, however, prior to the incident, the couple already lived in separate houses.

Months after Jennifer’s death, the alleged murderer would have intentionally started a fire and burned the trailer that belonged to the couple.

The months-long investigation ended with the arrest of the 48-year-old suspect on Wednesday in the city of Elk Grove, south of Sacramento.

Smith was booked into the Sacramento County Jail where he faces charges of murder, arson and fraud.
