Life sentence for Hispanic mother who starved her 6-year-old son to death

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A Hispanic mother from northern Arizona who pleaded guilty to murder by starvation in the 2020 death of her 6-year-old son was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, it was reported. Associated Press.

elizabeth archibeque29, had agreed to plead guilty to first-degree murder and child abuse charges if his sentence included the possibility of parole after 35 years in prison, his lawyer said.

The body of the victim, 6-year-old Deshaun Martinez, weighed 18 pounds at the time of death, an autopsy revealed. According to details of the investigation, Deshaun and his brother, who survived, spent up to 16 hours a day locked in a closet without eating.

The boy’s father, Anthony Martinez, and grandmother, Ann Martinez, have pleaded not guilty and are facing their own trials.
