Police: They find three children alone and unconscious during fire in Brooklyn apartment

NEW YORK – Three young children, who were alone inside an apartment, were seriously injured Sunday afternoon during a raging fire inside their Brooklyn residence, authorities said.

The incident occurred around noon at the 14-story apartment complex located at 383 Levonia Avenue. The firefighters found the minors of 4, 5 and 8 years unconscious in the apartment located on the 11th floor that had the door closed.

Two of the minors were the firefighters found 2 children in the living room and one behind the door and quickly took them to receive first aid. They were then taken to the hospital where they are stable but in critical condition.

The firefighters managed to control the situation in less than 12 minutes after receiving the alarms, but the investigation revealed that the minors were alone in the apartment at the time of the incident.

Both the father and mother of the children were detained by police and the father was charged with three counts of abandonment of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child. The mother has yet to be charged.

The case is under investigation.
