Five Cuban political prisoners, convicted for their participation in the popular protests of 11J in Cárdenas, were transferred from the Agüica prison, in Matanzas, without the causes being known.
Yonay Moreu Leal (15 years old), Chadrián Villa Seguín, (11 years old), and Lázaro García Herbello, (13 years sentenced), were sent to the Combinado Sur; while Daniel Yoel Cárdenas, (15 years old), and Erián José Scull Villa, (13 years in prison), are now in the Canaleta prison, in the town of Perico, reported Radio Television Martí.
Marbelis Vázquez Hernández, wife of Daniel Yoel Cardenasassured that the transfer was made on Saturday and that he has not yet been able to communicate with him.
The relatives do not know the reason for the transfer and Vázquez Hernández pointed out that these five political prisoners were the ones who received the longest sentences.
Conditions in the jails where these 9/11 protesters are held are described as precarious. Vázquez Hernández denounced that her husband suffers from anemia and that the food they provided her was of poor quality. In addition, she affirmed that she did not receive the adequate medications to treat gout, a disease that she suffers from.
Cárdenas’ wife also recalled that during his arrest, which occurred on July 13, 2021, one of the members of the special brigades of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) shot him in the back of the head, causing an injury. This police abuse was dismissed during the military trial.

At the trial, he was denied the opportunity to present witnesses in his favor, while all the evidence favored the military prosecutor’s office, as the prosecution in the process, which was not exempt from criticism and questioning, even from international organizations.
The situation of these Cuban political prisoners and the conditions in the prisons in which they are held have generated concern and complaints from human rights organizations.
