After new cases of poisoning at girls’ schools in Iran, relatives complained about the lack of information. More than four months after the first suspected cases, members of parliament said the Iranian security authorities had no explanation for the mysterious poisoning, Etemad newspaper reported today.

Last week, after the holidays around the Persian New Year, which marks the beginning of spring, dozens of cases were reported again right when school started.

No investigation results

Around 100 schoolgirls were poisoned in the Kurdish city of Saghes, the hometown of protest icon Jina Mahsa Amini, the US-based organization Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported. Two dozen students are said to be in critical condition. Protesting parents were arrested. There was no official information about the poisoning in the Iranian Kurdish regions.

After criticism, authorities announced on Friday that they would shortly submit a report on the incidents. The wave of poisoning has been causing unrest in the country for months. Schools for girls are almost exclusively affected. Schoolgirls were being treated in hospitals across the country. Doctors speak of gas poisoning. The authorities officially recorded more than 13,000 suspected cases.
