PSVR 2’s new, hyper-creepy, heart-stopping feature that will be employed in The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR comes to life in crisp detail.

We are finally in 2023, a year that rhymes with PSVR 2. A new PS5 virtual reality headset that will put you in all your states.

Don’t Blink With PSVR 2

The PSVR 2 will be armored with advanced technologies that will greatly enhance the immersion in virtual reality. And if we’re waiting for Horizon Call of the Mountain to be a premier showcase for the headset, another game might steal the show in our hearts: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. A horrific old-school shooter where you’re trapped aboard a roller coaster, with no way to escape.

A witty sequel to Until Dawn Rush of Blood that just might give you a real heart attack this time. If you blink, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR models, once immobile, will start to move and come dangerously close to you until the jumpscare thanks to the eye-tracking feature.

Alejandro Arqué Gallardo, director of the game, explained in the columns of Edge Magazine n°380:

On one door is the instruction ‘don’t blink’ and behind it a room full of bloodstained mannequins, wearing harlequin masks with bodies twisted in unnatural positions. Then comes a time when you can’t help but let your eyelids close. As soon as you open your eyes, the mannequins have been rearranged. Another blink and the phenomenon is repeated except that one of them has come to life. By repeating this process, we learn to use our eyes tactically to only blink when our weapons are ready.

It looks freaky to perfection, even being warned by a sign, and we hope that the developers will push the vice to achieve real, more unexpected jumpscares with it. Remember the lady who appears in front of you in Until Dawn Rush of Blood…

The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the Sense controllers will also make the show according to the director of The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR.

With haptic feedback, you feel the movement of the roller coaster on the tracks. You feel the wind and the rain on your hands. As for the adaptive triggers, we used them to create different sensations depending on the weapons with various levels of resistances.

In addition, as indicated by the PS Store sheet of the game, the slightest shock will be reflected through the PSVR 2 itself, through its own haptic feedback.

As your wagon hurtles down the tracks, take in every bump and drop with haptic feedback that brings roller coaster thrills to life. Thanks to adaptive triggers, each weapon provides unique sensations as you snipe at terrifying enemies that emerge from the shadows. Avoid falling beams, overturned buses and hanging witches. The vibrations of the helmet will make you feel the slightest shock if you are not careful!
