Monterrey.- Leaders of the Labor Party (PT) distanced themselves from the celebration for the 50th anniversary of Colonia Tierra y Libertad, in which a shooting occurred that left two men dead and four wounded.

After deploring the acts of violence that occurred early Wednesday morning, Asael Sepúlveda, state leader of the PT, assured that the dance was organized by people from outside that party.

“(It was) an event promoted by political operators outside the popular urban movement that gave rise to the colony,” said the leader, “Our celebrations have always been peaceful.”

He clarified that due to the founding of Colonia Tierra y Libertad, on March 28, 1973, its 50th Anniversary was celebrated with conferences, cultural events, and exhibitions that were held from March 27 to 31.

However, he said, that it is a very large neighborhood with at least four sectors, where different events are held, some that are not called by them, but by PRI members.

“The southern sector has been holding celebrations in recent years and they have their own mornings every April 24 at night, with meals and children’s events every April 25, the anniversary of the creation of this sector,” Sepúlveda said.

“These events… should not be confused with an event of a political nature held this April 25, dedicated to promoting parties other than the founders of the Tierra y Libertad Colony and which was previously disseminated in some political columns,” referring to to the dance organized by Rosa Velia and Paco Cienfuegos.

“We reiterate our regret for the violent acts of the early morning of April 26 that caused loss of human life and we express our solidarity with the relatives of the deceased, as well as with those who were injured.”
