Puerto Vallarta registers a notable increase in the arrival of passengers through the sea. According to figures from the Puerto Vallarta National Port System, more than 350,000 passengers have arrived at the destination aboard 112 international cruise ships this year; figures that represent an increase of 40% compared to the same period in 2019, and an increase of 78% compared to last year.
Likewise, for the remainder of 2023, it is estimated that 59 more cruise ships will arrive at this destination, with an approximate of more than 179 thousand passengers, which would give a total, counting from January to the end of the year, of 171 cruise ships with more of 530,000 passengers, so an economic benefit of around 722 million pesos can be estimated. In this way, it will surpass Yucatán, one of the most important destinations for this type of tourism, which in 2023 will receive 80 cruise ships. “Puerto Vallarta continues to be a very attractive destination and this great increase in the arrival of visitors through cruise ships is only a sample that reflects the greatness and leadership of Puerto Vallarta. Each cruise ship arrival generates an economic boost that benefits various sectors, from local commerce to gastronomy and tourist services,” said Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism.
During the first six months of the year, Puerto Vallarta has received a total of more than 3.2 million tourists, which represents an increase of 8% compared to the same period in 2022.
This influx of visitors has left an economic benefit of 22.3 billion pesos, which represents an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. In addition, an average hotel occupancy rate of 78% has been registered, exceeding the 2022 records by 3 percentage points.
