The Taiwanese NAS manufacturer QNAP pushes just in time for the start of the year new NAS models on the market. The TS-AI642 should be mentioned, among other things, which has an internal AI with NPUs and is therefore an expert in image recognition and should bring improvements in video surveillance.

A Rockchip RK3588 processor works inside the TS-AI642. This complements QNAP’s ARM-based product portfolio. The 8-core chip comes with four Cortex-A76 cores (2.2 GHz) and another four Cortex-A55 cores (1.8 GHz). This creates a balance between performance and efficiency. An NPU is also integrated, which the manufacturer specifies with a computing power of up to 6 TOPS.

The NPU is supposed to accelerate various tasks with the help of AI. These include facial recognition “QVR Face”, the AI-supported search for surveillance events “QVR Smart Search” and the AI photo albums “QuMagie”.

QNAP has also installed two 4K HDMI outputs, which also makes the NAS device predestined for use in video surveillance. Six hard drive slots should provide enough storage capacity. 2.5 GbE is also available in the standard package. 10 Gbit can be upgraded via PCIe Gen 3 slot.

There is still no information on availability and the prices called up.
