The principal of a Jackson Heights school resigns after a second-grade boy was found with a knife at the school.

That incident occurred on November 1 at public school 389-Q after the minor told other students that he would attack them during lunch.

School employees quickly confiscated the knife.

The parents were furious, as they claimed that principal Erica Ureña did not inform them about the incident until three days later.

In images we can see the resignation letter presented by the now former director.

More than a thousand parents had signed a petition calling for his dismissal. Some even testified before the Education Policy Panel to remove her from office.

They say she downplayed the incident, saying it was “a sharp kitchen object incident and nothing unusual was found.”

Ureña’s resignation takes effect on Wednesday.
