According to the report Smart City Index (SCI ) 2023  de l’International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Algiers has been ranked as the second smartest city in Africa.

The report takes into account several criteria such as connectivitythe technologyl’economyl’environmentthe governance and the quality of life. This edition of SCI class 141 cities in the world relying on the perceptions of 120 inhabitants of each city. On a global scale, Algeria is positioned at the 123th position.

Several sectors were analyzed before drawing these conclusions. The structure as well as the technology present in the field of health, transport, opportunities at work and at school as well as the actions of governing.

In 2018, a technology hub was inaugurated in Algiers to transform the city into a smart city. This project was part of a larger project launched by the wilaya at the end of 2016, which already involved nearly 300 start-ups.

The Algerian capital is ahead of several major cities on the African continent

Algiers ranked just behind the capital of Egypt, Cairo. The Algerian capital is positioned ahead of Cape Town (125th in the world), the Moroccan capital, Rabat (126th in the world) or even Lagos, the second largest city on the continent (132nd in the world).

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had also decided to grant an amount of one billion dollars to the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development.

This sum is intended to finance development projects in African countries, in order to help accelerate development in Africa and promote security and stability on the continent.
