For more than 30 years, the Berliner Philharmoniker have been commemorating their founding date on May 1, 1882 with their traditional European concert at cultural and historical locations throughout Europe. This year’s concert will take place in the legendary Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona. In the church designed by Antoni Gaudí, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Berliner Philharmoniker play works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Valentin Silvestrov and Toru Takemitsu under the baton of their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko.
In addition to the vocal soloists Louise Alder, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Linard Vrielink and Kresimir Strazanac, the Catalan choir “Orfeó Català” can also be experienced.
Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) will broadcast the concert live on May 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. on Erste and on the radio on rbbKultur as well as in the ARD Audiothek. After the broadcast, the concert will be available in the ARD media library. Petra Gute moderates the TV show. Andreas Knaesche leads through the radio program.
