The Boston Red Sox signed Colombian catcher Jorge Alfaro to a one-year deal for the 2023 season and added him to the Major League Baseball active roster.

Alfaro will wear number 38.

To make room for Alfaro on the 40-man roster, the club designated receiver Caleb Hamilton for assignment.

Alfaro, 30, was previously signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on Jan. 18 and appeared in nine Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox, hitting .478 (11-for-23) with three doubles and two. home runs.
