Report: Celtics Send Marcus Smart to Memphis in Trade for Kristaps Porzingis

According to reports, the Celtics have undergone a significant reorganization of the team.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston will send Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a deal to send Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics from the Washington Wizards.

Memphis point guard Tyus Jones will go to Washington in the trade, Wojnarowski reported.

The development occurred on Wednesday night. Earlier in the day, the Celtics and Wizards were reportedly “approaching” a three-team deal involving the Clippers, but it later fell through. In that move, the C’s would have sent Malcolm Brogdon to Los Angeles and Danilo Gallinari to Washington.

Wojnarowski reports that Porzingis, a 7-foot-3 center, will opt out of his $36 million contract for next season to join the Celtics.

Smart has spent his entire NBA career in Boston after being taken sixth overall in the 2014 draft.
