Residents of an apartment complex in Beltsville, Maryland report that they spend their days and nights without air conditioning, despite the high temperatures that are being felt in the region.

Many of Barclay Square’s residents say they have had to change their routines due to the lack of air conditioning.

“(It is) very difficult because I am the mother of five children, a single mother. It is very difficult for me not to have air because I have to sleep with the balcony open with the windows open so that the air can ventilate inside,” said resident Mayra Elizabeth Parada Morales.

Franklin Rafael Flores Santos agreed.

“Now it is very delicate to be at home. We did not sleep well without air. We only have a fan. We all sleep in the room with the two girls and my wife, but it is difficult to be like that without air, ”she said.

They now denounce that the management of the complex does not attend to their complaints about the lack of air conditioning.

“From there when I came back, they told me that if I wanted air, well, I had to buy my air,” said a resident who wanted to remain anonymous. “So now that we bought it, tell me, who is going to pay you back?

“The eviction order came to me because I went to the office demanding air conditioning and they really told me that it was going to take time to fix the air pipes and I told them that this was not fair,” said Flores Santos. “They sent me the eviction letter because they say that I attacked the people in the offices.”

Telemundo 44 communicated since Monday afternoon with the management of the apartment complex through emails and phone calls but we have not received a response.

One of the residents shared an email dated May 31 where management explains why the air conditioning is not working.

Management stated that due to underground pipe repair work, the air conditioning may not work or may work at low pressure. They said that once the work was completed, the air conditioning would be restored.

But according to residents, this is not the first time a situation like this has happened, and despite asking for updates on the situation, there seems to be no response.

“For the cold weather there was – I don’t know if it was like two or three months I think – there was no hot air, and that was also a problem,” said the anonymous resident.

According to some residents, the air conditioning has returned to some buildings in the complex, but in others it is still not working.
