It is not just idyll and peasant romance that occurs at Steinsjøen farm.

Going back a century is demanding. This year’s tenants have to deal with several weeks without food, showers and toilet visits indoors.

Several of the participants have admitted that life on the farm was far more challenging than they had expected.

– When you see it on TV, it looks very cosy, and much cooler than it actually is. It was absolutely shocking how much work it actually took to get food on the table, said Malin Nesvoll in an interview with God kveld Norge.

Weekly assignment

After Wednesday’s episode, observant viewers noticed a detail that didn’t fit the era.

It was shown that the participants used disposable gloves while handling cow poo on the farm.

Press manager at TV2, Jan-Petter Dahl said in connection with the episode that the participants were given the gloves for safety reasons.

– The participants then chose to use them themselves when they had to fertilise, which was another part of the weekly assignment.

– Just puke and shit

Malin Nesvoll (32) and Aleksander Sæterstøl (27) tell Good evening Norway that the weekly assignment in week two involved handling a lot of cow poo.

Nesvoll got a nasty surprise when the lessees were given the task of fertilizing a field at Steinsjøen farm.

– We walked around the yard and “scooped up” such huge kuruks. We had a large field that had to be fertilized by hand, says Nesvoll.

– We had buckets, but it’s going to be wet. There are no showers and such, so hygiene is not at its best in there.

Nesvoll says that she experienced major stomach problems after dealing with fertilizer that one day.

The 32-year-old shivers as she tells:

– I washed my hands afterwards, but I can imagine that I have bitten my nails and that there is something sharp under there.

– Then I got so bad. It was a whole day where I just spewed and turned.

Nesvoll says that she received assistance from health personnel who were present during the recording. They could tell that it most likely took a day before she recovered, but that her condition was not particularly serious.

– It’s not fun to have diarrhea in the open air, notes the influencer.

In the video below, Malin Nesvoll reveals one of the other participants’ sordid smuggling stories:

– We lived in poop

Sæterstøl says that the participants had to adapt to the less idyllic aspects of farm life.

– The whole gang smelled of poo. We lived in poo, and there was poo everywhere, says the 27-year-old.

Nesvoll agrees and adds that they had around 50 animals at Steinsjøen farm that roamed freely in the yard.

– So then you step on it (poop, journ.anm) and you take it inside with you. Suddenly you have poo under your woolen socks, and you take them to bed with you. It was everywhere, she says.

The duo points out that the bad weather contributed to far more mud and mess inside the farm.

– It was bitterly cold and rained almost all the time, says Nesvoll.
