ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — MJ Melendez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and the Kansas City Royals scored five runs in the ninth inning to clinch an 11-8 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Los Angeles ending a six-game losing streak.

Hunter Dozier had three hits and drove in three runs, including two with a single in the ninth that gave the Royals some breathing room. Matt Duffy also had three hits.

The Angels lost despite hitting four home runs for the second time this season. Matt Thaiss put Los Angeles ahead 8-6 in the eighth with a two-run homer, but Jose Quijada (0-1) couldn’t hold on.

Hunter Renfroe homered twice and Mike Trout hit his first home run in two weeks. It’s the sixth time since 2020 that the Angels have lost after hitting at least four home runs.

Jose Cuas (1-0) allowed Thaiss’s homer but took advantage of the reaction from his teammates to earn the victory.

For the Royals, Venezuelans Salvador Pérez 4-1 with two runs scored; Edward Olivares 5-1 with one produced and one scored. Puerto Rican Meléndez went 4-2 with two produced and one scored.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 4-1 with a run scored. Colombian Gio Urshela 4-1.
