When the Entertainment Software Association and ReedPop revealed that they would be teaming up to revive the Electronic Entertainment Expo (better known as E3) this year, many of us wondered how this would work given that most developers and publishers now have their own events. In addition, we have Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which did a good job of replacing parts of the E3 purpose. Now comes another nail in the coffin showing that the doomsday prophets who predicted that 2023 will be the last year of the event may well be right.

IGN claims that neither Nintendo, Playstation nor Xbox will be part of E3 2023 or even have a presence on the Los Angeles Convention Center show floor. Sony hasn’t been there for a long time and Microsoft most recently had its own event outside the Los Angeles Convention Center (which, however, is very close so it felt like a natural continuation).

However, Microsoft has already confirmed that they will run their own event in time for the summer of the kind they usually do (what we previously referred to as E3 press conferences), and with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest and probably something else, it still seems that June can be quite a fat gaming month.

Will you miss the E3 nights with all the spectacular announcements and gameplay videos posted from the show floor?
