San Fernando Valley organization seeks permanent homes for canines

Several years ago Roberto Martínez found his passion and appreciation for man’s best friend.

“I, like anyone else, have been through a lot,” says Martínez. “The dog for me has given me peace and tranquility, he has shown me a love that I have never experienced in my life.”

Martinez is dedicated to training dogs for the nonprofit organization Paws For Life K9 Rescue, which finds homes for pets in Southern California.

Did you know that there are apps that can teach you how to train your dog in various skills? Here we explain.

Her three puppies at home are just part of the many she has trained in this profession.

“Everyone wants attention, they want a hug, they want time,” says Martínez.

People interested in adopting a dog through the organization.

“We can recommend which of these dogs would be best for your home,” says Martínez. It’s not, ‘I like the way this dog looks and he takes it.’ I am going to say (to) ‘this dog prefers to be alone or something’”.

And if there are already dogs at home, you also have to introduce them to the possible new member of the family to find out if they are compatible. Martinez also assists with that here at the Innovation Center, located in Mission Hills.

All you have to do is make an appointment at your Internet page.

Other benefits it has for people is to create routines and keep them active to go outdoors.

“Each appointment lasts 45 minutes,” explains Martínez. “You bring me your dog, he tells me, ‘Roberto, we have this situation with my dog, what can you advise me?’”

Martínez also points out that a little practice makes a big difference in coexistence

“Dogs, due to human failure, have sometimes treated them badly, or they don’t understand them, they abandon them, but even dogs give us a second, third, or fourth chance,” says Martínez. “They still love you, no matter the situation.”

In addition to offering puppies for adoption and free training, the innovation center is also looking for volunteers to walk the pets while they wait for their chance at permanent homes.
