FC Schalke 04 have been looking for a clearer in front of the defense for a long time, and now they have found him. Éder Balanta from Club Brugge finds his way to Gelsenkirchen. The deal is a loan until the end of the season. Both clubs are silent about a possible purchase option.
Head coach Thomas Reis is happy: “We’re getting a physically robust and strong defensive midfielder, who is characterized by his physical style of play. I’m convinced that the way he plays will reduce the pressure on our defense and we will benefit from that.”
Balanta himself explains: “I’m very happy that the transfer has come about and I can’t wait to meet my teammates. We have a big task ahead of us, so I will do everything to ensure that we hold the class.
Balanta was only second choice for Brugge this season. The 29-year-old started three times in 13 competitive games. The miners can still look forward to an experienced six, who was able to get a taste of the Champions League with both the Belgians and previously with FC Basel. The left footer has made nine appearances for the Colombian national team. His contract runs until 2024.
